OPINION on Big Data in Health

9-11-2017

The Hellenic National Bioethics Committee has examined the ethical issues arising from the use of big data in health. Undoubtedly, big databases offer significant advances in health but the benefits seem to be mitigated by the risks that arise at the level of personal autonomy and the guarantees of the privacy of the subjects of this sensitive information. To this end, the Commission has formulated specific proposals for the use of big data on health.
