RECOMMENDATION on protecting adolescents from exposure to gambling

The National Commission for Bioethics and Technoethics announces the publication of a new RECOMMENDATION on protecting adolescents from exposure to gambling.

The alarming trend of adolescent addiction to betting and gambling in our country has been a concern for the National Commission for Bioethics and Technoethics and has led to the drafting of a Recommendation to address the issue.

The Recommendation highlights the rapid growth of digital betting and gambling applications as a cause for the familiarization of minors, even though the law prohibits the use of such applications by the latter.

It emphasizes that, in addition to controlling illegal applications, it is necessary to restrict advertising of legal applications as well, when adolescents may be among the recipients, primarily for public health reasons in order to prevent cases of addictive behaviors.

It also considers that special measures should be taken to verify the identity of application users, so that, particularly in this sector, indirect access by minors can be prevented.
